The 19th Annual Conference of Vijñāna Parishad of India(VPI) on “Recent Advances in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences and their Applications” and A symposium “On fixed point Theory and Applications” Dedicated to Professor S.L.Singh was organized by Department of Mathematics, H. N. B. Garhwal University, BGR Campus, Pauri Garhwal.

The Inaugural Function was conducted on the very first day, November 10th, 2016 at 10 a.m. and was Presided over by the Campus Director Prof. A. K. Dobriyal. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor J.L. Kaul was the Chief Guest while Professor S. G. Dani IIT, Bombay and Professor S. L. Singh (G.K. University , Hardwar) were the Guests of Honor. During the Inaugural Function Professor A. P. Singh (President of VPI) emphasized on the role of Mathematics in day to day life of society. Professor R. C. Singh Chandel (Secretary of VPI ) gave brief Introduction of the VPI with its Aims, Activities and Goals for next few years. In Inaugural Address Professor J. L. Kaul (Vice- Chancellor of the University) appreciated the organization VPI for such activities and described the importance of the Conference to the research students and faculty.

During the Inaugural Function VPI felicitated Professor S. L. Singh for his contribution and achievements in the field of Mathematics. Professor S. G. Dani was Honored by prestigious “ LIFE-LONG ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” (The Highest Award of VPI). Professor V. K. Katiyar (IIT, Roorkee) and Professor Pranesh Kumar (Prince George, BC, Canada) were honored by “DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD “ of VPI for their Outstanding Contribution and Distinguished Services rendered to their Subject,Vijnana Parishad of India and /or National Development. Professor D. S. Hooda (Rohtak) was also honored by FVPI ( Fellow of Vijnana Parishad of India). Professor R.K. Saxena (Jodhpur) and Professor C.M. Joshi (Udaipur) were elected as Honorary Fellows of VPI (FVPI) in their absence.

The first technical session was conducted under the Chairmanship of Professor D. S. Hooda. During the session Professor S. G. Dani delivered a talk on “Continued Fraction, Expansion for Real and Complex Number”. Professor Pranesh Kumar delivered a talk on “ A Historical Perspective of Linear Models and Analysis in Data Analysis”. Professor Vinay Katiyar gave the “PROFESSOR J.N. KAPUR MEMORIAL LECTURE” on “Applicability of Mathematics and Specially the Modeling of our Breathing System”. During the session, Professor G. C. Sharma, Dr.Hemant Kumar and Dr.Ashok Kumar gave invited talks. In the evening a Cultural Programme was conduted by Cultural Department of Government of Uttarakhand.

On the second day, November 11, 2016, of the Conference a Symposium on “Fixed Point Theory and Applications“ (Dedicated to Honor Professor S.L. Singh) was conducted by Professor R.C. Dimri and Professor M.C. Joshi. Professor S. L. Singh gave his lecture on “A New Approach in Numerical Praxis”. During the Symposium Professor S. L. Singh, Professor P. P. Murthy, Dr. Rajendra Pant, Professor M. C. Joshi, Professor R. C. Dimri, Professor Santosh Kumar Sanger, Dr. U. C. Gairola, Professor B. C. Dhage, Dr. Mamta Rani, Dr. Anita Tomar. Dr.D.D.Sharma, Dr.Ashish Pasbola and Dr. S. K. Padaliya gave talks on “Fixed Point Theory and its Applications in Different Areas of the Study”. Total Thirty papers were presented by researchers in different areas of Fixed Point Theory.

A Special Session was conducted for “Young Scientist Award” of VPI under the Chairmanship of Professor S.G.Dani. Dr.Ajay Gairola, Dr.Puspendra Semwal and Dr.Vivek Naithani were awarded the “Young Scientist Award” of VPI.

During the Conference total 12 Technical Sessions were conducted in which more than 25 invited talks were delivered by Professor Vinod Mishra, Professor A.P.Singh, Professor D.S.Hooda, Professor R.C.Singh Chandel, Professor Madhu Jain, Dr. K. S. Rawat, Professor G. C. Sharma and many others. Besides this more than 50 research papers were presented by researchers from different institutions of India and abroad.

In a Meeting of Executive Council of VPI on November 10,2016, Dr. Omkar Lal Shrivastava (Rajnandgaon) announced to donate Rs. 30,000.00 for already existing " BEST PAPER PRESENTATION YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD" in future Conferences of VPI.

The need of an university in Garhwal, within the Central Himalayan region that could fulfil the aspirations of the distinctly and culturally rich hill society with its specific geographical and socio-economic conditions, was a long cherished dream of the local populace. The H. N. B. Garhwal University started as a state university in 1973 is now a central university since January 15, 2009. Since its inception, it has three campuses- Birla Campus, Srinagar; B. About the venue

Pauri is a beautiful hill station and the height of Pauri from sea level is approximately 1750 meters. Weather of Pauri remains generally excellent with temperature varies between 12-180C in November. Pauri is administrative headquarter of Garhwal Division and from the nearest railway stations of Rishikesh and Kotdwara it is 120 km and 106 km apart respectively. Buses ply from Rishikesh and Kotdwar to Pauri and taxi services are also satisfactory.
