Conference Highlights

The First International VPI conference was organized in the honour of Prof. H.M. Srivastava who has completed 75 years of his active life.

The second salient feature of the program was a parallel International Symposium on Computational Biology in the honour of Prof. V.P. Saxena who has completed 50 years of active research career (1966-2015).

The inaugural function of “18th Annual cum 1st International Conference of Vijnana Parishad of India (VPI) on Computational And Integrative Sciences” and “International Symposium on Computational Biology” was held on 11 December 2015. Shri Bhupendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Information Technology, Government of Madhya Pradesh was the chief guest of the function and Dr. Appu Kuttan K. K. Director MANIT Bhopal presided over the function.

After the inauguration Prof H. M. Srivastava delivered a keynote lecture on “Some General Families of Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta Functions and Their Applications” and Prof. V. P Saxena, Former Vice Chancellor, Jiwaji University, Gwalior delivered the keynote lecture on “Mathematical Modeling of Certain Human Body Circulations”.

In the evening on 11th December 2015 in Radhakrishnan auditorium, MANIT Bhopal Prof. H. M. Srivastava from Canada and Prof. V. P. Saxena, Former Vice Chancellor, Jiwaji University, Gwalior were felicitated for their contribution to the field of mathematics by Shri Uma Shankar Gupta, Honorable Minister for Higher Education, Technical Education and Skill Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Prof. Bal Swaroop Bhatt, Department of Mathematics, University of West Indies, St. Augustine,Trinidad (W.I.), delivered a Prof J. N Kapoor Memorial Lecture on “Some Prey Predator Models”. Five Plenary lectures and Eight Invited Lectures were held in various disciplines. More than 160 papers were presented in the area of Mathematical and Computational Biology, Computer and Information Sciences, System Biology and Bioinformatics.

The Plenary Lectures were delivered by Prof. Karmeshu from Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, Prof. M.A.Pathan from KFRI Kerala, Prof. Rekha Srivastava from University of Victoria Canada, Dr. Rolf P. Würtz from Germany, Prof. Anand P. Singh from Central University of Rajasthan, and Prof. V. D. Pathak from M.S.University of Baroda, Vadodara. The Invited Lectures were delivered by Dr. J. Prakash from Botswana, Dr. D.S. Hooda from JUET, Guna, Dr. G. C. Sharma from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra, Dr. Madhu Jain from IIT Roorkee, Dr. Renu Jain from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Dr. Hemant Kumar from A‐V. (P. G.) College Kanpur and Dr. R .C. Singh Chandel from D. V. College Orai.

  • Professor H.M. Srivastava (University of Victoria, B.C., CANADA, one of the three Founder Members of VPI ) was honored during his Platinum Jubilee Celebrations for his outstanding contribution and Distinguished Services rendered to his subject, Vijñāna Parishad of India and/or to Social Communities

  • Professor V.P. Saxena (Ex-Vice Chancellor, Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradsh, India) was honored on completing 50 years of his active Research, for his outstanding contribution and Distinguished Services rendered to his subject, Vijñāna Parishad of India and/or to other Social Communities.

The following two mathematicians were honored by "DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD" of Vijñāna Parishad of India for their outstanding contribution and Distinguished Services rendered to their subject, Vijñāna Parishad of India and/or to Social Communities:

  • Professor Rekha Srivastava, University of Victoria, B.C., CANADA

  • Professor V.D. Pathak, Former Professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, M.S. University, Baroda, Gujrat, India

Honorary Fellow: Professor Karmeshu, J.N.U, New Delhi, India, was honored by electing him as Honorary Fellow of Vijñāna Parishad of India (FVPI)

Following participants were awarded as Young Scientist Awards in symposium and conference.

The Valedictory Function was held on December 14, 2015 at 2 p.m in Radhakrishnan auditorium, MANIT Bhopal Dr. Tariq Zafar Vice Chancellor - M.P. Bhoj (Open) University, Bhopal was the chief guest of the function, Dr. Appu Kuttan K. K. Director MANIT Bhopal presided over the function.

About the Institute

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) is an Institute of National Importance. It was formerly known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), which was India's one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges. The institute has been named after the great scholar, educationist and the first Education Minister of Govt. of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The Govt. of India and Govt. of Madhya Pradesh jointly sponsored the Institute in 1960 to attract bright young students from across the country. Presently, along with about 200 faculties and 4000 students, the institute is successfully meeting the objective of producing skilled manpower of the highest quality to cope up with challenges of ever evolving industrial needs of the country.

About the Department

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1961. Prof. B. R. Bhonsle a well known mathematician of our country was the founder Head of department. The major thrust of the department was on Mathematical Modeling and Computer Applications. The department conducts M.Tech & PhD program in Bioinformatics, M. Tech program in Computational Systems Biology, Master of Computer Applications & PhD programs in Mathematics & Computer Applications.
