Abstract

Love-type wave for a model consisting of a viscoelastic sandy layer overlying an anisotropic elastic halfspace with irregular interface is investigated. Irregularity considered is of parabolic type. Expressions for displacements are obtained by using method of separation of variables. Frequency relation in complex implicit form for phase velocity of Love wave is derived by using suitable boundary conditions. Two particular cases: (i) when anisotropic is replaced by orthotropic half-space and (ii) deriving classical Love wave equation to validate the problem, are discussed. Dispersion equation is analyzed graphically by using MATLAB software, obtaining significant impacts of various parameters like irregularity, sandiness and dissipation factor. The current work is very relevant to soil mechanics, earthquake engineering, and geophysics.
